Just trying to upgrade to the best card I can however I know the AGA states it can support a 2 slot graphics card. Many of the aftermarket cards are 2.5 slots .. Just wasn't sure if any of the them would fit or not?
The AGA will not support 2.5 slot graphic cards.
Alright thank you. Seems like the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC Black Edition GAMING should fit from looking at the specs although technically I think it's 10.6" in length so a potential problem .. Just depends if the 10.5" that is listed as max has any wiggle room to it. I'll let ya know when I try it.
A couple of suggestions ...
1. Rephrase and simplify your question and maybe Eimy can provide you with a more direct answer.
2. Search this forum, Alienware Arena and/or Google for user reports of working cards. It's more than just size ... ie Amps power-draw, driver support, etc.
3. Most users report that anything other than a Reference Design card ( like the Founders Edition) at stock GPU and/or RAM clocks exhibit compatibility problems. I think buying a "SC" (Super Clocked) card for this use-case is risky.
Was risky indeed .. Thankfully it seems to fit/work just fine with the updated BIOS from dell website and the updated drivers from EVGA website EVGA - Download Center - Driver Version: 381.89
Dell Alienware 15R2/17R3 System BIOS - Version: 1.3.10
This is with my Alienware 17R3 with an Intel Core i7-6820HK and 980m
That's surprising, but good work. Thanks for confirming this card works: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC Black Edition GAMING
I was able to get the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 GAMING, 11G-P4-6593-KR, 11GB GDDR5X, iCX Technology - 9 Thermal Sensors & RGB LED G/P/M to work great in the Graphics Amplifier. All it took was installing the recently released drivers through NVidia Experience App on my 17 R4, and 15 R3. I played FF XIV on maxed-out settings for hours last night without any hiccup on the 17 R4.
My issue lies in that in the Command Center App, it shows where the Graphics Amplifier tab is, but it won't load anything other than info about buying one. The disconnect FN + F1 key combo also does nothing, but shutting the computer off works fine, and then disconnecting the cable from the laptop and then rebooting it, it reads/operates fine.
Any suggestions on how to get the command center and other items to work?
Not sure. It's one of those strange things that the AGA seems to come with.
I for example also have the 'hybernate' status greyed out when on AGA. It's my second card already, and had the issue with both cards. Nothing worked, in spite of a couple of hours of trying to find a fix.
I don't use the Command Center app at all, but happy to check it out later. Currently mobile.
Got the EVGA GeForce® GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 GAMING, 11GB GDDR5X the other day. Works like a breeze on my 17 R2.
The power connectors stick out a bit too high for the case to 100% close. But that's not a huge issue. Rather time for some case modding!
