Aurora R4 Spectre and Meltdown Bugs

Presuming the Core i7-3820 on the Alienware R4 Desktop is affected by the Spectre and Meltdown Bugs, will Dell will release updated chipset etc drivers for this model?

Or will they ignore older, out of warranty, units?

Not sure what is going to happen on the old BIOS front.

Microsoft have released a PowerShell script to allow you to check if you are affected though... you can check it here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4073119/protect-against-speculative-execution-side-channel-vulnerabilities-in

Hi FlashJJ‌,

Dell is aware of new security research describing software analysis methods related to Intel microprocessors. We are working with Intel and others in the industry to investigate and address the issue.

This is the information we have so far: Microprocessor Side-Channel Attacks (CVE-2017-5715, CVE-2017-5753, CVE-2017-5754): Impact on Dell products | Dell US

Suggestions:

  • Update to the January 2018 Windows Security updates
  • Update latest Antivirus Definitions
